What is SMVT?
According to the amendments to the Special Motor Vehicle Tax Act, a special tax has been levied since 1 January 2017 based on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, the vehicle’s selling price, engine power and displacement, and exhaust gas emissions. For used vehicles, the special tax is payable in an amount equaling the residual special tax determined according to the percentage of motor vehicle’s decrease in value on the Croatian market.
